2025 Ford Explorer Active — Full Tint Removal, 20% Ceramic All Around and a 70% Windshield — Dana Point
A white 2025 Ford Explorer Active brought to us in Dana Point with cheap aftermarket film already on the glass — and the owner could not see out of it at night. That is the classic symptom of a low-end dyed or hybrid film: it looks dark and acceptable in daylight, but it scatters light instead of controlling it, so oncoming headlights bloom, the mirrors wash out, and backing out of a driveway after sunset becomes guesswork. Once film reaches that point there is no fixing it with a polish or a shade change; it has to come off and be replaced with something optically clean. We started with a full removal on every window. Removal is the part most shops rush, and it is where a job goes wrong — the Explorer's rear glass carries defroster grid lines that will lift straight off the glass if the film is dragged, and the liftgate and quarter panels hold adhesive in the corners that has to be steamed and softened rather than scraped. Every panel came off in one piece where possible, then the adhesive was steamed, chemically broken down and squeegeed off until the glass ran clean under a light, with the defroster lines fully intact and testing good. Only after the glass was truly bare did the new film go on. The replacement is HiTek ceramic — 20% on all side windows and the rear glass, plus 70% on the windshield at the customer's request. The night-visibility difference is immediate: ceramic is optically clear film, so at the same 20% shade the owner now gets a crisp view instead of the hazy glow the old film produced, headlights read as headlights, and the mirrors stay usable. The 70% windshield is almost invisible from outside but does the heavy lifting on heat and skin protection, blocking up to 93% of infrared and 99% of UV through the largest piece of glass on the truck — the panel that cooks the dash, the wheel and the driver's left arm on the 5 and on Pacific Coast Highway. Ceramic is 100% non-metallic, so the Explorer's Ford Co-Pilot360 camera and radar, BlueCruise hardware, blind-spot monitoring, SYNC, GPS, Bluetooth, wireless charging, TPMS and key fob are all unaffected. Every panel was plotter-cut to the Explorer's exact glass and the rear window was heat-shrunk in one piece over its compound curve — no light gaps at the belt line, no fingers over the defroster, no shrink marks in the corners. Installed mobile at the customer's home in Dana Point, Orange County, and backed by a lifetime warranty against bubbling, peeling, purpling and fading. The customer could not have been happier with the result.
