2018 Honda Odyssey — Two Front Windows in 20% Ceramic Film — Carlsbad, San Diego County

A 2018 Honda Odyssey in deep Obsidian Blue, tinted at the owner's home in Carlsbad with 20% HiTek ceramic film on the two front door windows. This is the classic family-van job: the Odyssey leaves the factory with dark privacy glass behind the sliding doors, but the driver and front passenger windows are wide open clear glass — and on a minivan those front panes are enormous, which means the front row takes the brunt of the sun on every school run and every drive up the 5. Adding 20% ceramic to the fronts brings the whole side profile into one continuous line of dark glass from the mirror to the tailgate, and more importantly it puts real infrared-rejecting film exactly where the cabin heats up fastest. Our meter on the finished front glass read 23.8% VLT with 90.5% UV rejection and 88.2% infrared rejection — that IR figure is the number that actually matters, because it is infrared energy, not visible darkness, that turns a parked van into an oven. Cheap dyed film can look just as dark and reject almost no heat at all. On a van used to haul kids, car seats and dogs, that difference is felt immediately: the front seats stop cooking, the AC keeps up on a short trip instead of finally getting cold as you arrive, the steering wheel and the light grey leather stay touchable, and the second and third rows benefit because the whole cabin starts cooler. UV protection matters just as much here — 99% UV blocking protects skin on long drives and stops the dash, door cards and grey seats from fading and cracking, which is how an eight-year-old family van either keeps its resale value or doesn't. Ceramic is 100% non-metallic, so nothing interferes with Honda Sensing, the CabinWatch and CabinTalk systems, blind-spot monitoring, GPS, Bluetooth, the rear entertainment system or TPMS. Both front panels were hand-cut on our plotter and heat-shrunk to the Odyssey's tall curved door glass, then squeegeed and tucked clean at the belt line with no light gaps, no fingers and no shrink lines. Twenty percent is also the shade most Odyssey owners want on the fronts to match the factory rear privacy glass as closely as film can.
